Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, also known as Viva la Vida, is Coldplay's fourth studio album. It was released on 12 June 2008. The album was named after a Spanish phrase translating as "Long Live Life."

Work on the album began in November 2006, although being interrupted by the Twisted Logic Tour in 2007. The first single, Violet Hill, was released on 9 May 2008 to moderate success. The second single, Viva la Vida, was released on 25 September 2008 and was a huge success, becoming Coldplay's first Number One on the UK Singles Chart and first Number One on the US Billboard Hot 100. It won Best Rock Album at the Grammy's and was nominated for Album of the Year.
